What’s Common about, ‘Common Sense?’ Hardly anyone uses it!

Common Sense... Really???

If we believe that everyone has ‘common sense’ then why aren’t they using it? You look around and what do you see? People not operating with ‘common sense.’ So what is it? It cannot be so common if everyone is not using it. Or if there is limited access to the means of ‘common sense.’

So… what is the big deal about ‘common sense?’ It’s not so common after all… If it was our society would be clones of one another, and we are not!

We are all individuals, no two are exactly the same in spirit, soul and body. We are individual thinkers making us unique in our thoughts and that’s what makes ‘common senses’ so… uncommon.

In order for it to be common we would all have to be experiencing life under the same conditions, at the same time. And at best we would all walk away from life’s experiences with the same thought and meaning to life. This would level us off to mediocrity, no one striving to get above the ordinary. A hum dum, mundane… life to speak of. This attitude makes life common.

I have one question to ask you, ‘ How did you ever get comfortable with being average?Average life, average wife and average kids, yep, that makes you about average alright. Hey don’t get me wrong now, there’s nothing that terribly wrong with average. It could be a good thing… You’re closer to the bottom so you don’t have far to fall; everybody else is doing the same thing, so that’s OK; right? You don’t have to try hard; except for  looking good at lying around in a stupor. REALLY? REALLY??

You were created in the image of God. Have you looked around the universe lately? What’s so average about God? Nothing! Then why is your world so average if you are truly made in God’s image. That’s something to pause and think about… That thought alone could move you out of the realm of ‘oh well everybody else is doing it.’

Genesis 1:26

Amplified Bible (AMP)

26God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth.
Strive for meritocracy, that is individual achievement based on your own ‘personal best’ in life. You have your own world, your personal sphere in life, so make it great. Strive for excellence in your life and other’s.

So the next time you look at someone and say, ‘you are not using ‘common sense.’ Maybe, they are and you are? You just might need to step out of the ‘common sense’ realm and get into the ‘uncommon sense’ zone. Some times ‘different’ just fits, and looks better on then ‘common.’ Don’t you think???

Much love,
Pastor Harris
