Racism… How Christians Handle It

racismI was conversing with a fellow christian regarding racism and how we as Christians should respond. Here is the following dialogue between us.

XXX XXXXXXX: I wish race wasn’t constantly talked about. To me, it creates more problems. We are all Gods children created in His image. Period.

My response to XXX XXXXXXX: I love you and I’m proud of the growth you have in the Word of God. You have to grow more baby. You are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus! My momma taught me that ‘God’s Righteousness’ is not convenient because it will always put you in places of unrighteousness. Why? The world will never see righteousness till someone stands for it and the world will never see Jesus till they see Him in you. She would stop the car and break up fights and lead men to Christ. She would risk her life (mine too, I was with her) to save men that were left for dead. She was 4′ 9”.  And she didn’t carry a weapon even though she stopped those who did. She had Jesus… that’s all Jesus…

Romans 3:22-23 Amplified Bible (AMP)

22 This righteousness of God comes through faith in Jesus Christ for all those [Jew or Gentile] who believe [and trust in Him and acknowledge Him as God’s Son]. There is no distinction,
23 since all have sinned and continually fall short of the glory of God,

God does not see color nor does His Children (the real ones, not the ones still with the world’s mindset of racism.) You and I are ambassadors for Christ. The light of the World.
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 Amplified Bible (AMP)

20 So we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us; we [as Christ’s representatives] plead with you on behalf of Christ to be reconciled to God. 21 He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness].

I understand your need to feel comfortable. But the real reality of feeling uncomfortable is to evoke change. Real sin should and does make people feel uncomfortable and they repent. Repent meaning they change their minds… their mindsets and go another way. The way is Jesus and having His mind… the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:16 King James Version (KJV)

16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ.

If we truly believe that God is Light then we have to believe and trust Him when He sheds light on a subject. This subject is race. And God has designated this dispensation to deal with it.

John 1:4-5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

4 In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].

You said,’To me, it creates more problems.’ Yeah! It is suppose to. Just like the Christian Jews who did not want to accept the new converts (gentile Christians) into Christianity without first being converted to Judaism. Remember Peter’s dream (Acts 10:9-16?) There are other stories too. Even Jesus said He came to divide (Luke 12:51.) You don’t think that causes problems?…

You are the light that shines in the darkness. Racism is darkness and you cannot (you really can if you want to) hide your light like it does not exist.

Matthew 5:14-16 King James Version (KJV)

14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Look at verse 22 below…

Mark 4:21-23King James Version (KJV)

21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick?
22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

If you do hide your light you deny Christ Jesus.

Matthew 10:33 English Standard Version (ESV)

33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven.

You also said,’We are all Gods children created in His image. Period.’ If you believe what you said then make it known and stand for it!!! I was taught this in Sunday school at the age of four. I didn’t have the verbal capacity to explain this to my mother. I was spanked practically everyday because I would hunt down people, mom called these people strangers but to me they were images of God. I thought if I could see every human face, the drunkards, the homeless, the drug addicts, the sick, the rich and the poor I would see the Face of God. Now you see why my mother was concerned. I never saw the people’s status or color, I only saw God. Mom would tell me if you don’t stop running up to strangers and grabbing them, ‘I’ll spank you.’ You don’t need to tell everyone, ‘Hi.’ My response was I’m seeing God, I have too. What happened? I was spanked by the one I so dearly loved every time… I paid the price, I didn’t care. I loved God more…

Besides I was just like my little momma who cared more about God’s Children then she did her own life. So baby girl, you do what you have to do and I will pray that God will lead you… This is your Journey with God.

God is love, love covers and conquers it all…
